you know you’re a frequent blood donor when…
If you read my blog regularly, you know that I have a needle habit. I even have scars. But it’s a good thing — I donate blood through those needles.
When I went in to the Blood Center this evening, it was unusually quiet. As I quickly scanned the room, I saw that I was the only donor there, and that neither Jane nor Christopher (my two favorite phlebotomists) were working this evening. After I checked in, I took a seat in the second booth and waited for the phlebotomist to come check my vital stats.
We’ve all heard the jokes that start with words like “You know you’re a redneck when…” or “You know you’re from Cleveland when…” As I sat there waiting for the phlebotomist to come in, I smiled when I suddenly came up with my own version.
You know you’re a frequent blood donor when you have favorite phlebotomists.

Today I was looking at the photos on our church bulletin board of a mission outreach in the city. Our associate pastor was pictured and his t-shirt made me immediately think of you… It showed three frogs sitting in a row. Above them were the words “blood-wise-rrrr” in bubbles, borrowing from the old budweiser commercials. Below them it read “donate blood”
I thought you’d like that.

If you know what “phlebotomist” means … you might be donating too much blood.
