finger-lickin’ good
Nothing says Happy Fourth like an all-American picnic featuring barbequed chicken. I know KFC claims that their fried chicken is finger-lickin’ good, but my fingers definitely tasted better this evening than they would after eating KFC. The clouds were threatening to pour rain at any moment, so we ate inside, but a picnic is a picnic no matter where you eat it. Barbequed chicken, baked beans, raw veggies, chips, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit salad, cookies, iced tea… Mmm.
It’s not often that I party with people my parents’ age. There were only a few of us 20- and 30-somethings there, but the evening would have held plenty of hilarity even without our contributions to the conversation. After dinner we played — you guessed it — dominoes. (Would now be an appropriate time to admit that I own a set of dominoes too?) It may not be the liveliest or most challenging game, but the slow pace allowed plenty of opportunity for banter.
When it got dark, we ended our game of dominoes, grabbed our camp chairs and lawn chairs, and headed outside to watch the fireworks. From our vantage point, we could see and hear fireworks being set off from half a dozen locations. I’m glad OTHER people have money to burn!
